ABOUT KOCHI INTERNATIONAL TRIENNIAL EXHIBITION OF PRINTS

Tosa washi is said to have a thousand-year history.
Kochi is historically rich in forests and clear streams, which are essential for making Tosa washi.
These elements have sustainined the long history of Tosa washi until today.

The Kochi international triennial exhibition of prints began in 1990, with the hope of creating magnificent print works using Tosa washi paper and further developing both washi and printmaking cultures,

As its name suggests, this exhibition is held once every three years.
With each iteration, high-quality works from around the world gather, making it an internationally acclaimed exhibition.

The theme of the 13th exhibition is “Printmaking and Tosa Washi in Harmony”.
Through events related to Tosa Washi and introductions to the region’s long-established paper industry, we aim to showcase the charm of this region alongside printmaking.

Whether you’re seeing prints for the first time or visiting with your family,we invite you to come and experience the charm of prints and Tosa Washi paper at the venue.

EXHIBITING WORK

This exhibition has received a cumulative total of over 30,000 submitted works to date.

The 13th exhibition received numerous entries from both within Japan and overseas.
The judges have carefully selected winning entries from these submissions for display.

Please enjoy the exquisite printmaking works at the venue.

PRINTS × TOSAWASHI

Since the exhibition is hosted in Kochi, a world-class producer of Japanese traditional paper, artwork submissions are limited to those that use paper as the primary material.

In addition to the exhibition of printmaking works using Japanese paper, workshops related to Tosa Washi will be held during the exhibition period. Also, on the first floor of the Paper Museum at the venue, you can experience papermaking to create your very own unique sheet of Japanese paper.

Along with the printmaking works, please also experience the world of Tosa Washi.
